For years, almost half of the population in America has attended church regularly on Sunday afternoons. Amazingly, over the past 10 to 15 years, not only have less people been attending church on Sunday afternoons, but a Newsweek magazine poll released in April of 2009 revealed that 2/3 of the public now believe religion is losing its influence in America.

Ironically, not only has the church been losing its influence in America as a whole, but a huge majority of young adults between the ages of 18-30 years of age have completely stopped attending church on a regular basis after graduating from high school as well. This reality was revealed in a powerful article entitled, “Losing the Millennials,” where a pastor’s wife revealed that not only do 69-94% of youth forsake their faith after leaving high school, but within the Assemblies of God churches, 75% of students drop out of the religion after high school and within the Southern Baptist Convention, 88% of students drop out after high school.

In order to learn more about this problem in America, our Speak On It team not only hosted a two hour discussion with 20 emerging leaders under the age of 40, but we attempted to find out why these problems exist within the church and what these religious leaders believe the church will have to do in order to be more effective and influential in the 21st Century.

Below is a quick promotional video that gives you a glimpse of our discussion with these twenty emerging religious leaders under 40 years of age about the future of the church from a younger generation’s perspective.
